Interchangeable Alternator......

Is it possible to replace an Alternator from a GA16DE engine with another one from another Nissan car....? are there any other nissan's with the same type of alternator in the GA16DE that I can put in....? how hard is it to change the brushes or Voltage Regulator? Thanks

Are you looking for a more powerful alternator or something, or just to replace the stocker?

I thought that the B13 GA alt. would fit if you swapped the pulley, but you may want to do a search as I believe there is a thread on that subject. As far as changing the brushes and regulator, it is not terrible, but honestly I bought a junk yard alt. from a 1.6 and had the local shop make a good one out of the two they had and clean it all up brand new like and they only charged like $35 or so.

The one I bought was perfectly good however the case looked like crap. I wanted them to test everything and freshen up the cas efor me as my original case was nice. I paid $50 for the used alt. and $35 for them to make it literally look and function like new.

I was thinking of buying an alternator from a junker, but my alternator seems fine now......or is it? almost 2 weeks ago the typical dash lights came on....symptoms of a dead alternator, but the weird thing is it only happens on start-up in the morning......battery and brake light flicker on and off and the car seems like its going to die but after a little bit of reving the lights go off and all is good through out the day....that is until the following morning.....is it about to die ir could it be a loose cable?
