Advancing the timing too much?

Ok, I gotta 96 200sx ga16de. I advanced the ignition timing all the way and I run it on 93 octane gas. I don't hear pinging or any funny noises. I ran it at 15 degrees and i seem to have more power now than I did before. Can somebody tell me why?

Turn it back to 15 degrees and be done with it. Chances are you might not know what pinging sounds like. Are you checking it with a timing light? Over advancing your timing can hurt your motor and HP and seeming to have more power and actually having it are two diferent things.

Supposed to happen. Only shows actual timing in timing mode.

but when i had it in timing in mode it wouldn't go to 15* unless i had the distributor turned all the way. and after i put the tps connector back the timing went up to 20*. So I don't get it.

When the tps is disconnected, the computer has no control over the timing. This allows you to set the base timing. When you re-connect the tps, the computer takes control of the timing (it can advance and retard based on the current sensor input). At idle, the timing is advanced to make the engine run smoothly.

Alright I get that, but if i advance the timing with the tps disconnected, it won't advance to 15* unless I turn the distributor all the way. Is that supposed to happen? Then with the tps connected it will read a little over 20*

The change in timing from 15 to 20 is normal. Having to move the distrbutor all the way is not. Has the timing chain been worked on? If the chain is off one tooth on a sprocket, it would cause this effect.

yea i think the timing chain has been changed by the previous owner. I kinda figured that something was off, so i put the pointer a little bit after 10*. I am thinking that it might be of maybe 5* or so. What do you think I should do??
