Hey guys, quick question. I have a 96 base model 5 speed 200sx. I recently spotted a nasty oil leak, dripping on the ground. Previously I've read the problem area for these cars is the front main seal and oil pan gasket. Easy enough to replace I guess, but my leak is all over my passengers side control arm and suspension parts, there is also some comming from the pully so I don't know if the pully is slinging the oil or what but I must fix it asap. Please email or reply with any info. Thanks everyone.

its probably the seal or you are leaking power steering fluid like i was. it was all over everything but i replaced the tube leading from the resoviour to the engine and i havent had a problem since
I thought it may have been the power steering fluid too but It doesn't look red...could be dirty tho, there is way more acumilated on suspension parts, around my power steering pump, on the exhaust... But doesn't seem to be AS much around the seal...I guess ill just replace both and see if its fixed.
You could clean your engine, then try to see where the leaks appear. The leaks I have had are the valve cover gasket, front main seal, oil pan gasket (twice), and the oil pressure sending unit to the right of the oil filter. When I was getting oil around my power steering pump/exhaust area, it was a cracked oil pressure sending unit. At first, I thought it was a power steering hose. If the power steering is leaking, the reservoir will be low on fluid. I have topped mine off with about 3 ounces of fluid that last 100,000 miles. My front main seal is leaking a little right now, but the oil is being deposited on the frame about a foot away. So, it may not be obvious what is leaking until you clean the engine.

how much is an oil pressre sending unit and how hard is it to replace
I bought one at Auto Zone for about $7.00, then bought a deep socket to fit the oil pressure sending unit for about $7.00 at Advance Auto, only to find Auto Zone had one cheaper. The hard part was getting the harness off, since it was covered in oil, and I did not know what I was doing. With the socket, it was very easy to remove and I just snugged up the new one. It has worked fine for about 16 months.
Just to the right of the oil filter, screwed into the block. I think I even removed the oil filter when replacing it, just to have a little more room to work. But, that may not be necessary. My memory is not the best, plus it was a rush job.

Hey would anyone mind emailing me a pic of the oil send unit? My sidekick doesn't suport java and its my only means of online-ness right now... My addy is matt_fearon@tmail.com. Thanks so much,
Just found it, hiding behind some stuff, I'm almost sure that's what's causing the leak...is the plastic part on it supposed to be shaky wnd is the threaded piece supposed to be sticking out half way? I hope its not sabatoge...
My plastic cracked. Must be due to heat/age? At Auto Zone, they had a Universal Socket, that fits the sending unit, and other sensors. With the proper socket, it is a easy to replace.

Maybe a jealous Honda guy crawled under your car when you were not looking.
