I just read this insert since I was planning on doing some headwork:
"Of the years of GA16, the better head to use for performance work is from the 95-99 GA16DE. This head has larger ports than the older 91-94 variant. The late head also has intake ports that are a straighter shot into the cylinder. The older head directs the port flow to the side which was probably done for more intake swirl. The later ports shoot straight in and flow better. The easy way to spot an older head is the manifold which kinks to the side on the older heads. The new style head is good for about 5 more hp over the old style head."
...Technically, I can take a GA16DE head off a newer 200sx 95-99 (cams and all) and plop it onto the 93 GA16DE? Just by reading how the head is on the newer version, it sounds alot cleaner cur and just more reasonable to use. Any insight on this would be great.
From the way that reads.. it sounds like its a simple swap. When I was looking for a new motor for my '92, I did find out that a GA16DE was damn near identical motorwise, with some changes to sensors, wiring, etc. so I would think that its a simple swap.

The 91-94 CA16DE engine management was OBD-I while the 95-99 was OBD-II. If you use your OBD-I intake manifold, you should check that the bolt positions and ports will line up in the later head. The late model intake manifold will be difficult to adapt to your OBD-I car due to the difference in the sensors.

I see the terms OBD thrown around alot.. Could you tell me what that stands for?

BTW, Hello all =)
Yes you can take the head of a 1995 and up. For OBD-2 I was under the impression that it only was the 98 and up. Unless I'm wrong.
(PS: I have a head and cam or a 1995 that I'm trying to sell)
Sorry Guys..... But to put the 95 up head on the older engine takes a good bit of work.... Im in the process of building a 96 motor and have a couple heads laying around to double check this.... The exhasust ports are the same spacing and bolt pattern... Thats about it.... The intake ports wont even come close to lining up and a quite a bit bigger.. Nor is the bolt pattern the same... So thus you have to use the newer intake.... With the extra sensor or 2 and the different locations its easiest to just swap in the newer engine wiring and computer.. You might be able to convert the older harness to work but Im not trying.... Im using a 94 GXE interior wiring with a 96 ECM and engine wiring.. Going into a 92 e model... Go figure... Hope this helps...
BTW***** OBD II was implemented Nationwide for the 96 model year.... Some 95's and a few 94's have it though...

And the B14 chassis started with OBDII in 1997
hence all the 96 ecu conversions by JWT
(they just don't wanna mess with obdII, I guess it's too complex for them)
And if you convert back in year from the cars model year you are BREAKING THE LAW AND WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS!!!
Something JWT won't tell you.

So, let me get this right. I have a 96 B14, federal model, no precat off the header, 2 O2 sensors. Would that be considered OBDI or II? Might come in handy if I ever pick up a scanner. I had assumed OBDII, but it never hurts to know these things...

That is wrong! The B14 Factory Service Manual shows OBD-II starting in 1995. I have a JWT ECU in my '97 200SX.
