If anyone has an answer to this, would greatly appreciate it. Looking
into swaping out the stock header on my 97 (1.6) and of course this
would leave only 1 cat in place. My only concern... Would it still be
possible to pass emissions? Thanks all.

it should pass emissions. the stock manafold has the catalysts in it? i didn't know that. as long as you have a cat converter, you will pass emissions though no problem. its like imagine having two filters on something that filters out big crap and only big crap. the stuff that the cat picks up is the big crap. having two of them won't make much diffrence. good luck on installing your header. tim

Next time your under the hood, take a closer look at the manifold. Just under
the aluminum cover is a BIG OLE fugly fat cat.

hehe kansas doesn't have emission laws. as long as i don't piss a cop off with noise i can run whatever i want for exhaust.

if you have an aftermarket header it will not pass emissions. just put the oem manifold back on when you go to have it smogged.
Thought about that also.

Im not sure if it will pass. When im up for smog again, Im going to try to smog it with the header on. My uncle owns an electrical/smog shop, he said we can try it once. IF it doesnt pass, ill just have to R&R the own manifold.
I know for sure you wont pass the visual, unless you get a dumb smog tech.

Visual part I can slip under. Know of a few shops that will overlook
certain things, like only having 1 cat instead of 2. Since Cali is strict
on emissions, keep me posted on how you make out. If you pass, I
will DEFINITELY pass here in NY.

The only way you're gonna pass emissions with an aftermarket header is if is CARB approved. If it's CARB approved, it will have a CARB # on it. If you don't have this # and badge, it will never pass emissions or visual. The only way it will pass is if you do it illegally.
every year i fail emissions since i have had the header on, but my mechanic will let it warm up and do a little tampering with it.. but this year they just obdII tested it... and if i didn't throw two codes, i passed, so its really on the mechanic and if everything else is good on your car, you might pass

i asked earlier if it was OBD2 (aparently no one knows if your state uses it and it is rather important) because if it is, and you have a cat and the O2s are wired properly, then you wont get a CEL and hence you will most likely pass. A lot of places dont even bother with visual inspection.
