What can I do to prevent the problems that the engine doesn't start?
I have been reading threads here and many of them are about trouble of starting their engines. My Sentra 1.6 manual is fine, but sometimes I need to turn the key twice in order to start the car.
I used to test drive another 93 Sentra XE manual from a car dealer. The clutch on it was really tight and bad,so I made the engine cut off a several times on the road.(because it was hard to feel where I could let go the clutch). The problem was that the engine died on the road and I could not get it started again!Only all the singals lit up.I had to turn the key a million times and finally the engine started. It was awful and I don't want it happen on my Sentra now. What can I do to prevent this trouble happening?

Well, I had that problem with turning the key forward, then back, then forward again to get my 94 Sentra (1.6L Manual) to start also. Eventually, my car lost power, was being really crappy, and finally pretty much died on me. I got a new distributor and voila! Everything is working fine now. Got more power than I need, and I don't have any problems whatsoever starting it. This may not be your problem, but if you start losing power, get a new distributor. I had started with a new cap and rotor, but it didn't work out so well, so I had to get a new distributor. This was about a week ago. I also changed my spark plugs and wires FYI.
New distributors are expensive as shit. Don't just throw money at a problem without properly diagnosing it. Especially don't throw money at a lack of a problem. There's also a whole bunch of reasons why a car won't start, but in general these Sentras are pretty reliable. If your car ain't broke, don't fix it. Just keep up with proper maintenance.

Well, it was my distributor causing the problem though, and it was diagnosed by a mechanic and myself, he just confirmed it. I was just telling him that to pssoibly prevent what happened to me from happening to him, I was without a car for a week because of this. Not every mechanic can get your car in right away, I got lucky. Unless he can do it himself. I payed $189 for a remanned distributor and an extra $50 charge (refundable) for the core. $32 for installation.Yeah, pricy, but it fixed the problems I had.
