the ga can be bored out to 1.9...the walls are thin. I know Wes is doing a lot of stuff to his motor, so i'll wait for him to chime in. Or you can visit his site www.notnser.com
its actually been done. that writeup by mathers details his work on an NA 1.6. he used it for rallying or something.
he mentioned that you couldn't go over about 1mm on the bore, which basically adds up to like 1.69L engine or something... nothing worthwhile unless you want to scrap out every bit of power.
The only reason to bore over is if your trying to re-use the stock block and the surface is imperfect. Otherwise there isn't much power to be gained as the cylinder walls are so thin.

I was thinking the same thing....not a whole lot to gain from it.
You just can't get caught up in looking at peak numbers only. The GA16 has a pretty wide powerband for a small 4 banger. That's why at 120whp, I read recently, it's faster than a lot of Honda/Acura 4's that are makin over 140whp. The peak numbers might not be there without boosting, but it ain't terrible modded NA.
Haha anybody else at first read the title of this thread "The boring GA16"?

i wish the block gave us a little more room for a good bore, only because you can get high hp through high revs. this is the same principle as on a F1 car, the bore is bigger than the stroke, which lets the engine spin like hell and make shiz loads of powa. this is called an oversquare design.
but, everyone is right, our GA's are friggin awesome, esp. for an economy car, so much technology: VTC being one.
