Clutch cable problems

I am working on a 94 sentra XE and I can't get the cable detached for anything. The hook on the end of the pedal linkage will not let the end of the cable go. I finally got pissed and just cut the cable to give me more room to work with, I'm replacing it anyway. Just so i don't get flamed, I do have the FSM. My question is "has anyone had this problem, if so, how did you fix it?" I cannot get the pedal to release the cable. I was thinking about going from the top with the dash out, but i really don't want to remove the dash. Any info would be very appreciated.

Also i should state that i did do a search and that didn't help me. I still can't get the cable off the pedal linkage.

Finally i just got sick of it and my buddy just disconnected the whole pedal. Clutch cable is off now. YAY!
