is there a starter fuse?

hi
i turn the key to crank the car up and i hear the starter turn the engine with lot of effort. it sounds as if the battery is down and I tried some more time till the starter stopped turning completely. then i tried to jump the car but it was of no use at all. i can hear the solenoid click loudly but the starter wouldnt turn.did i do a mistake in trying to turn the starter even when the battery was weak. is there some fuse which might have burnt. or did i screw up the starter motor completely.

theres a starter signal in the fuse compartment in the car, that happened to me once and i just replaced it and the car turned on smoothly

does the solenoid look big and is it a blue box? how can I know which solenoid is for the starter?
