Before I get started, yes I searched. I searched for "ticking", "pinging", and "detonation" and came back with a lot of different information reguarding everything from timing chains, spark plugs, injectors, and timing needing to be adjusted.
I had my mechanic advance my timing to 15*. I'm running 93 octane and have been for a couple of tanks now. For 2 days the car has been great. It was a nice slight boost in power and I was enjoying it. Tonight I took the car to go see some friends and when under heavy acceleration in high RPMs, I hear this whistle and ticking sound. It's pretty faint, but noticeable. It only makes the noice under those conditions. I let the car warm up by driving normally and then I got on it again. Same outcome. Fearing detonation, I came back to my house and retarted my timing by only using a 12mm wrench. No timing gun, no disconnected TPS. I took it out for a few runs as I was retarding it more and more, and it would become less and less noticeable. To make it short, the noise is still there. I'm going to bring my car to the school's shop tomorrow and have my friend set the timing back to stock using proper procedures (disconnected TPS, timing gun).
But if that doesn't fix things, what should I investigate?
u do know that by not following direct procedures to adjust the timing, timing is not adjusted? it seems to me that maybe the guy that advanced your timing advanced it too far.

I gave him the list of procedures I copied off of the internet, so I'm assuming he did it as directed. Well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow...
