I own two 94 Sentras, both have the 1.6L engine. one is a 5-speed XE model with 142,000 miles that I've had for almost a year. the other one is a Limited Edition model with 210,000 miles, automatic tranny, that I've had for about two weeks. they are both the same color and identical in appearance. both run strong and run the NGK Platinum plugs.
the old one (XE) has a front seal issue that I'm about to fix. also, the bearings rattle. I've done a front seal on my old 88 maxima when I replaced the timing belt. I lose about a quart to 1.5 quarts per week and the oil leaks onto the belts, causing them to slip and squeal. the belts also carry it into the alternator, so since this leak started, I've gone through 2 alternators.
i went to autozone to get a price on a new seal and they said something like 40$ i was like wtf??? i know thats now right, so what should i ask them for when i go in there? is there a technical term the product has other than Front Seal? and how much is it?

It is part No. A8060-45174 Front Crankshaft Seal, $8.73 from the Nissan Dealer
Yes. The seal is higher than the oil level in the oil pan.

Lew;
I have oil leakage and I thought that it was from front main seal because the oil leakage was at the passenger side of the engine and near the beltd. Every morning I am having oil puddles around a US quarter size on the floor. SO does this mean that I have another leakege from somewhere?

Not necessarily. When the engine is running, the seal is bathed in oil. When you turn it off and let it sit, the oil continues to drip off the engine for a while.

I got mine for $4.66 form Advance Auto Parts. They even had the repair sleeve for the balancer to fix the groove it inevitably has worn in it.

i've been having oil leaks for like a year now (yes, i deserve a beatdown for not fixing it for a year ><). i finally decided to take a look at it.
the leaks are indeed in the passenger side, under the belts...only leaking with engine running, leaking faster as rpms rise (after warm). my friend who's an exmechanic took a quick look and said it could be the front main seal. im not sure, i havent wiped down the sides and ran it to see yet. i may not have enough time to do this myself, and was wondering, if this is the problem, how much i'd expect to pay if i had a shop do this for me (im sure expensive)?
I was able to get the job done in roughly 30 minutes to an hour. get a can or two of engine degreaser, and clean the side of the engine (actually, it's the front) really nice. if you can still see oil being thrown out, but with no specific leak spot, that's what it is. I fixed mine and it hasn't leaked a drop in 6,000 miles (yes, I know I need to change it.)
I rent a pulley tool and it still will not come off leaking 1q oil daily
can't get the crankshaft pulley off? i used a good 'jiggle' motion and my body weight to get it off...kinda hard really. i havent even seen what a pulley tool looks like, so can't help u there (my brain tunes it out when i walk down the tools isle,lol). try a bit harder, if u cant get it, and it's costing u a qt a day, then just breakdown and take it to the shop.
i finally replaced my seal.... it was suprisingly easy.... compared to a wonderful thermostat and water pump replacement (yay...ow...sore). i spent a good 3hrs cleaning loads of gunk out... so far no oil leaks ^_^ .
unfortunately havent ran the car much... broke relief valve, had to get new one, putting together today (but thats another headache, for another time lol)
