Unhappy Exhaust leakage problems...

I have a GA16DE powered b13 which had a loud exhaust. The noise (and often odor too) 0is coming from the front of the car an at first I thought it was the catalyst. It's not the typical 'farty' noise you hear when someone has a hole near or in the muffler, it's more like a lot of air rushing (but some loud rattling at high rpm). But after looking at the bottom of the car I noticed a gap in between the flanges connecting the downpipe and some straight pipe which is connected between that and the catalyst (see illustration if confused). Could there be a missing gasket there causing all of this noise?!? I need to now soon because inspection is due this month! (May)

I'm sure their should be a gasket there...I think a metal one, but I'm not sure.

In the future please don't cross post messages to multiple forums. I merged the thread you placed in the "B13 chassis" forum with this one.
