Idler sprocket grease or not grease

I'm changing out the idler gear on my GA16DE engine and can't seem to find out whether I need to put grease inside the idler shaft the sprocket goes over and the idler bolt goes through. And if so, what kind of grease is recommended. When I pulled it off, it looked like there might be grease inside the shaft, but it looks like it could have also been just grunge. Any ideas?

I don't know if you need to grease it but from the manual. the recommended multi-purpose grease is - NLGI no. 2 (complex lithium). hope that helps.

Use engine oil on anything in that assembly as it directly drains in to the pan. If you apply grease and it goops down into the pan it could interfere with the oil pickup.

Thanks. After looking over the oil flow diagram in the manual it looks like the oil flow covers the sprocket pretty good. Of course, as it turns out that's the least of my problems. Once I pulled the head off, all the valve heads but two came tumbling out. It was quite a mess under there. I guess when the old idler gear went, the pistons beat the heck out of the valves. The bottom of the head looks pretty beat up too, I hope I can get by with a good grinding at the machine shop, but I'm not couting on it. Then there's a couple of nicks on top of two of the pistons. I hope that doesn't mean I have to replace those too. But of course with my luck it will.
