Made mistake of removing A/T filter, how do I reinstall it?
US 1998 200SX 1.6L automatic
I made the mistake of removing the filter/screen from the transmission valve body and of course discovered that one bolt that just doesn't thread back in... Can anyone explain just what needs to be done to reinstall that "one" bolt in the absence of the factory service manual (which I'm still working on getting ahold of)?
I have a 1993 Sentra 1.6L Auto. This winter I had problems getting that same bolt out. The filter looked clean, so I just put all the other bolts back in. So, it may be about the same. Hear is a Nissan Mechanic who answers questions that might give you some helpfull information: http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl633.htm
doesn't fit at all, or just spins? If it just spins, put some blue loctite on the clean threads, and remember to use penetraitin' fluid when taking it out next time. so mark it.
If it doesn't fit at all, get a couple of the same sized bolts and lower to make it fit (auto parts stores carry a wise selection, as well as a nice amount of sample bolts they'd let you borrow, and if you bring the bolt in, they'll look up the threads, being metric or not, and the correct sze down.. I used to work at one of these stores, so... ), once again, close with loctite..
the last option, is to tap the thread out to the correct size if its too small. Too big, and you'd either go one size higet, or a lotta loctite. =)
This particular bolt has nothing to thread back into... Apparently, from reading some threads here, there is a nut and washer in or above the valve body that is now lying loose because the filter is not supposed to be replaced (my Haynes manual neglected to mention this!). I don't have an actual service manual yet so I have no idea how this transmission is assembled or the proper procedure for resetting this special bolt...
im gonna talk to the nice people i host some of my files from, n see if i can setup a permanent link for the FSM. that wway, it can just be made a sticky er something.
