I have a 1998 200sx. Iam trying to turn off my "service engine soon light" . And i read some other forums and they said reset the ecu. This is what i did: I turned my key to the "on" position, then i loosed the screw on my ecu, when i looked at the dash the "service engine soon" light was off, i tightened the screw back to original position and the light came back on. How come it didn't stay shut off??? Do i need to do something different?? I know nothing is wrong with my car, because the reason the light came on in the first place is because i forgot to reconnect my MAF sensor, after i was done working on my intake. thanks for any help.
I got the same problem as yours. (You may read from my post, "engine check is on"). I tried to reset my ECU, while it didn't work well. The enigne check light came on again and again.
Btw, James, what is detailed procedure of do the screw method twice? I did the reset more than 10 time yesterday, while it did not work. Do I have to do the 2 reset in a row without start my engine?
I reset my ecu by disconnecting my negative battery overnight. It was disconnected for about 10hrs. I tried reseting it with the screw method, but it didn't work cuz i only did it once. But n e ways, luckily this time i knew what was wrong with car(disconnected MAF). I do not know how to check the codes, i dont know where the light is that is supposed to flash. Does n e one know where that light is????
The flashing light that you are supposed to watch after turn the screw on the back on ECU is the check engine light. That is the case on my 97 sentra gxe, and I think it should be true for your 200xs.
