Angry My 200sx SE quit.. and wouldn't start back??

well the other day my mom went out and moved my car out of the driveway in the morning with no problems.. later that day I went outside to start it up and move it back in the driveway.. it started up fine.. then I put it in reverse to back up... then when I took it out of gear to go into first my engine died... then it wouldn't start back up.. everyone thinks it's something different.. my friend and I checked it all over.. it's not the fuel pump, I replaced the fuel filter, the sparkplugs are fine, and now it is at a mechanic and he has had it for a day and can't figure out what it wrong with it.. THis sucks because this wasn't something that I saw coming.. It just happend out of nowhere.. like that day is the first time it has ever did anything screwy... ohh and also I check the ECU myself and it gave me the code that means there is nothing it could find wrong...

so any ideas??? thanks

i would make sure all your electrical plugs are in.. i would do a full tune up to make sure everything like your cap and rotor are all good, you plugs, wires... also, do you hear and noises.. do your lights come on... maybe a starter, battery, alternator... see if you can get a voltmeter to make sure your MAF is working cuz i know our car wont start without it.. good luck .. for better responses try to be more presist or add more details..

we made sure all the electrical plugs were ok, and we replaced the plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, and I checked the ECU for errors. We hear no strange noises and all electrical works fine.. We are still in the process of getting it checked out. The car acts like it's trying to start but it's just not cranking over.. WE thought it might be the fuel pump first but we can hear it running, then we figured it was the timing belt but we got that checked out and it was ok. The guy looking at it now is going to do a compression test on it today (whatever that is).. I'm ok with cars but not the best.. But this just happend soo suddenly that it's hard to figure out what it is.. the car made no noises or acted weird before this happend..

^^ to add to that the only thing I noticed before was if I didn't let the engine warm up long enough sometimes when I would drive my car then come to a stop my rpm's would bogg down then jump back up to where they should be.. but I just thought that was normal because of it not being warmed up.. Also my car tries to start more if you pump the gas while u are trying to start it up.. Could the fuel pump be acting funky even though we can hear it running fine??

anything is possible.. it could be a malfunction in the fuel management system.. i would also change the cap and rotor and get your timing fixed to make sure its around 8-10 degrees. the compression test is good to make sure all your pistons are getting the attention they need and make sure your system isn't clogged or faulty for oil and sparks.... if you search you will find more on the compression test...

On some cars there is a "Fuel inertia switch" which shuts off the fuel in case you get into a fenderbender or a collison. If by chance your car was stalled out or jolted in any way, that might trip the switch. Test your fuel rail for fuel pressure. Good Luck...

this just happened to me

Hey, did you check the ground wire. The other day, my engine and all electronics kept cutting in and out, and when I stopped it and started it back up after I had gone somewhere, everything shut down right before I tried to turn the engine over. So, that could be it, look to see if you have corosion around your battery, if so, clean it up and check that ground wire.

well the mechanic we have looking at the car said he is pretty sure it's the timing chain.. he said there is 2 in the car.. so i'm gonna take his word for it.. he said the longer one didn't break but it got some slack in it or something.. I hope he is right.. will that cost a lot to fix or what?? Wish I knew more about cars.. ohh well.. guess that is why i'm not a mechanic.. lol
