bad gas milage?

what can cause my 94 1.6l (80k miles) engine to get low milage?
i have changed spark plugs and cables. i am thinking of doing the timing
and o2 sensor next... i can bearly get 240miles out of a tank is this bad?(driving slow and soft)
also what is the best advance timing setting?

15 degrees on 91+ octane will give you the best hp and can save you some gas... but depends on how you.. try to not rev the motor up a lot cuz that will waste gas... try to replace the fuel filter, its prolly time to replace it.. maybe your fuel pump is messed up also..

Replace the air filter, maybe get a aftermarket cone one. Go with the o2 sensor, it will usually make a world of difference. Make sure your tires are inflated finee. Hmm that's the major stuff I think.

Nope, not crazy. I'll probably get 400 before I'm out of gas. Not sure about that though, cuz I can't remember how big our tanks are. By resetting the trip meter every time I fill up and then seeing how much gas I have to put in the next time to fill up, I figure out my gas mileage. (Number of miles since the last time you filled up divided by number of gallons it takes to fill up.) Figure that out and you'll have a much better measurement of how bad your mileage is. For reference, my car is in perfect running order and I'll get as low as 31-32 miles per gallon in the winter (say 0-30 degrees F) and as high as 40-41 miles per gallon in the summer (say 70+ degrees F.) The air is colder and thus denser in the winter, so there is more drag force on the car making the gas mileage worse.

Our tanks are 11 gallons. The most I have gotten in Kansas is about 315 miles. That is in the spring with no a/c, but I floor it in every gear . It really depends on what part of the country you live in. Altitude, humidity, and a bunch of other things can be a factor.

Umm... I dont know where you got the 11 gallon tank idea from, my chiltons manual says a 13 gallon tank.. I'm not knockin you, its just usually 6.5 gallons to half way in my car, if I fill up at half way. I think the winter has something to do with it too, cause driving highway i'm getting 32 mpg (HS CAI, Magnaflow custom 2.25 catback exhaust.) My check engine light is on, due to an IAT sensor malfunction that I haven't had time to change..... But when I got my car last year at the start of the summer, when it was stock I was getting around 40 mpg...... Is there any sure fire way unless you take it apart to tell if your clutch is going out?.. sometimes when I mash on it, the engine gets loud as crap, but the car doesnt accelerate any faster. She tends to drive better with just a little bit of gas compared to wide open throttle...... Ideas?
