need alittle help

ok First off i drive a 1996 200sx, and last night while i was driving it i noticed something

I'd take off (not pushing hard at all on the car) get into second and while going thorugh second decide to give it alittle gas... when i do this the car didn't seem to accelerate very fast at all and the rpm needle just kinda "flowed" thorugh the numbers and the engine just raced... i then put it into 3rd... had no problem with normal excelleration but when i would try to push it hard it would do the same thing.

Has my clutch just shit the bed?

Thanks,
-pat

It sounds like the clutch is slipping. Labor for that can be nuts, so try to find a friend or someone from the forum who can help you. The actual clutch assembly itself should cost you no more than $130.

I know alot of people are gonna give me hell over this, and that I should seach, but what all is involved in replacing the clutch? I've got the same symptoms mentioned above, i'm not asking like so much about the procedure to replace it, just the replacement stuff, gonna have to go see how much that will run me, just what parts do i need? plus i've had recommendations from Samo to get an ACT or a JWT.... but those are pretty pricey, how about clutchmatsters or something else??????? just want to get the car back to normal running.

Well, I know people are going to yell at me for saying this, but if you don't have a lot of modifications the stock Nissan clutch is really pretty good. You can get the stock disc for about $43 from Courtesy Nissan. As for what parts you will actually need (besides the clutch disk itself), you will have to see what else (if anything) is damaged/shows wear. You will probably need to get the flywheel resurfaced, but other than that, you normally don't need to do too much more. For a specific list of tools you'll need, I suggest looking at the B14 FSM listed in the sticky at the top of the B14 section. Good luck.
