Question Sump Gasket - leak

I have a oil leak that appears to be coming from my sump. Spoke to the Nissan Agents and was told that there is no replacement gasket. Instead I must use a silicone sealant. Should I use the normal black silicone sealant that is used on cars eg. to seal around windscreens etc. or should I use one of those red gasket maker paste that comes in tubes? How difficult is it to replace this gasket? Is it necessary to remove my front exhaust pipe to remove the sump?

Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Before you go through the trouble of pulling the oil pan check to see that it is your oil pan and not the front main seal dripping onto the oil pan flange. Typically the front main goes leaky around 80,000 (in my case) and up.
If you are sure that it is your oil pan then yup you'll need to use a high temp rtv, not windshield gasket. Maybe windshield gasket is okay but I wouldn't trust it. Besides the high temp stuff is very reasonable. Weather it is black, red I think they should work just as well as the other. Just allow time for the rtv to "setup".

Thanks for the tip.

Would wash my engine this weekend and check exactly where the leak is. Is it difficult to replace the front oil seal? Would I be able to do it myself?
