Fuel pump wiring questions

Firtst the details 1990 pulsar GA16i . The problem - the fuel pump does not operate consistently. Sometimes when power is turned on you cannot hear the fuel pump pressure up - and the car will not start. There has also been a problem with a poor idle / stalling. Have been testing the system and can power the pump by jumping it. Getting power to the pump relay. Question is could the ECU be fried or is there something else in the system that tells the pump to turn on/off? Or is there a problem with the fuel pump relays being weak or inconsistent?? Tested the relay per the manual directions and tests OK. Read something in forums about CPS being loose - will check tommorow ( too cold tonight only 8 degrees!)

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Fuel pump update

Just thought I would let you know the interesting results of the fuel pump problem. went on to check for power to the ECU and all terminals were getting power but no lights or trouble codes could be accessed. Then on to the grounds - nothing!! Tracked it back to the engine ground. One screw had worked loose - but not diconnected. By being loose the fuel pump circut would only work intermitently - I bekieve leading to a poor idling/stalling problem the car. The car now runs smoother and idles better. For those people who discounted SETHWAS and his grounding devotion I can say that here is an example of how important good grounding needs to be.

Thanks
