Muffler Replacement Question HP

I just had a question about a muffler that I might be putting onto my 99 Sentra. I know it depends on what type/style of muffler that I do decided to put on, but does approximately how many more horses do you get when you just replaced the muffler to a free flowing one??? I still have the original pipes and headed but just trying to get a ball park idea! Thanks!

Anth, if I where you, I'd say fuck the whole muffler, just get a HUGE muffler tip. Those bad boys add about 500whp and are only a few bucks!

3-4 whp on the high side with a nice straight through muffler.

wes, are you sure? I was under the impression a muffler added like 0.5 whp, whats the use of a high flow muffler with a slow flow exhaust.

maybe the stock muffler is really restricting on our cars...someone should dyno test just mufflers... hahaha...

i think dryboy is right. just replacing the muffler isn't going to add any noticeable performance gain.

well after getting the muffler done I can see that you guys are right, it doesn't really add any hp, just some loud noise! Lol This is just a start, and I want to do the full headers back for the exhaust system soon, but this new shinny muffler is going to have to keep me content until my pocket book lets me do what I want.... thanks!

get the rest of the exhaust before you get the header or it will sound like a weed wacker... you should get 2" stainless steel mandrel bent tubing for a cat back with a resonator to quiet it down and then get teh header...

you will only gain sound..

nothing noticable.. No seat of pants feel.. except you will notice there is less torque in low RPMS

I think wes was talking about your average cat back exhaust system. Mostly because I haven't seen the word "muffler" around here in a while.

yes, you're probably right. but the subject of this topic is just a muffler not a whole cat-back system.

Talking Doh

Your right. But if you follow Stillen's claims you will gain 15 HP from just their muffler....
