Help! Ive just been told....

That I have a bad Mass air flow sensor..This supposedly is the reason Ive been having problems getting this car started. The Mechanic said, after he told me that the computer did not yield any codes and he replaced the spark plugs and the O2 sensor, that the car was running too rich. He said it was dumping fuel into the cylinders. This caused a backfire (i never heard one) that burned a hole in the air filter. Does this sound right to you? He's gonna replace the sensor with a used one. that means the part will only cost $150. Out the door (this car has been there for the last 4 days) its gonna be $630 + tax. I feel like somebody just hit me with a baseball bat! Geez! Has anyone had this same experience with a mass air flow? What the cheapest way out? if there is one..Let me know..barulz

Yup, it could be the MAF that needs replacing, especially with a misfire like the one you described. If you want to cheap out, look for a MAF in a junkyard. Make sure the junkyard will take it back if it doesn't work.

Had a MAF sensor go out on me on a long distance drive... Had to fork over 560 bucks for a new one from a dealership! Just find one, used or new and throw it on there yourself, save yourself a couple of bucks!
