Can I reset the CEL (without the OBD scan tool) by unplugging the battery?

CEL came on, most likely because of rear O2 sensor.
I had a leak in my downpipe (I think it's called the downpipe) so the O2 sensor probably wasn't reading the normal levels.
I didn't actually scan the codes.

I replaced the pipe which fixed the leak but the CEL is still on. Should I just unplug the battery overnight?
Assuming the exhaust leakage was the cause, will that shut off the CEL?

The reason I ask without trying is because I don't feel like resetting all my radio stations for no reason if it doesn't work

Yes, unplugging the battery overnight should turn off the light. If the problem is corrected you should be fine, but if not the light will probably turn on again soon.

funny thing happened to me, my battery died... I swapped... and the CEL still comes on without starting up the car... I dunno, I thought that cutting off the power to it would reset it, maybe my car is some kind of GA16 ECU god.

CEL=check engine light......u reset the ecu by turning the screw in the back of the unit all the way and hold it for 2 seconds, then turn it all the way back, the CEL will then start flashing in a series of long flashes first, then short flashes next, u have to remember how many times it flashes slowly and how many times it flashes fast, if u have a chiltons manual, it tells u the codes and what they mean, if u dont have one, check out www.sentra.net

I know this sounds kinda funny, but It worked on a couple Altimas I did it to.
I forget exactly, but you either turn the ignition key to accessory or to on (try both). As soon as you do, press the door switch that triggers the dome light as many times as you can in 10 seconds. Turn off the ignition and turn it back on again. Before attempting I would set the Dome light to the off position. May or may not work. I'll go try it now to see if it makes mine go away. I'll get back to you.

Didn't work for me, but it didn't work the first time I did it to one of the Altimas I did. It took a couple tries.

I found it on altimas.net about a year and a half ago.
It actually did work on more than just a couple cars I did it to.
I was hoping that since this is a Nissan too that it would work on it too, but maybe not. It worked on a couple first gen altimas I did it to, and one of my friends with a different kind of car altogether had a CEL and I told him about the little trick I did and it worked for his too. I think it was a Honda or something, I don't really remember.
