All I use is 93, it's everywhere here. My timing is at 15* and I've never heard a knock. I get better gas mileage too, than with shit gas. Some of the Sunoco's around here even have 94 octane! Just out of curiousity, what exactly would one be afraid of if they were to put in high octane after a life time of shitty gas?

They just built a new BJ's Wholesale club near my place with a gas station, they have 93 octane and the member price is usually about a dime less than the Exxon down the road...
I run 87 in my VG30E though, it's what the engine was made for, my timing is close to stock (which is 20 degress BTDC!), and I've never heard a knock. No point in paying more for 93.

Nothing. The only time you'd experience a difference is if you went from a brand of gas refined by a major oil company to Peschwar's Place of Petrol. And even then, it rarely has to do with the octane level itself. You'd just be moving to gas that hasn't been refined as well.
over here in cali the best we get from gas stations is 91. although there is a 76 near my area that has race gas (95+) on pumps! although i do believe 105 octance is like $5/gallon.
but yah......i was just wondering, my timing is stock, nothing else really done to it at all. i usually run 87 just because of all the city driving i do, i MIGHT make it 5 er 6 days on a tank f gas, and i 91 every now n then just to clean things out.

92 is supreme here. that's all i run. alot of ppl are gonna comment on extra carbon build up and why not to run high octane all the time, but im doin alright.
Don't you get less carbon buildup from higher octane?
As for gas economics, with the increased gas mileage vs 87, it costs me about 50 cents per tank to get 93 instead, which is totally worth it for a cleaner burning engine and advanced timing with no knock.

No. Octane levels of a certain blend of gas has no direct effect on carbon buildup inside your engine. If you see a power improvement/mileage improvement in your Sentra after just adding higher octane gas, there is a carbon deposit already inside your engine.
If you have advanced timing or if your engine pings for other reasons, higher octane gas is a requirement. Otherwise the engine will not run better, more efficiently, or cleaner unless you switch mixes (brands) of gasoline (still has nothing to do with octane content itself).
