Angry Adjusting timing

I read yesterday about adjusting the timing to 12 degrees for a HP gain. My question is what do the timing marks represent?? there are no numers down there just marks. if someone could please help me. P.S. does it really work on the HP?
I have a 93 NX !600

Talking

I read about the timing adjustment in Kijimos garage but it does not mention the timing marks at all. all i see are dashes so thanks for the answer. I did it last nite and by the sotp dyno it does all right third pulls a lot better now but i seem to lost 5th gear top end. My neighbor has a 68 cuda bracket racer and a honda civic 2.0 L so he wanted to run me in his honda it was great to kill him on all three runs.
