does anyone know how many more miles that you have to go when the light actually stays on, of course it can vary on a lead foot but just normal driving you know the kind where your just taking it so easy that you just hope to get to the station. but just an estimate so i can be less paranoid when i dont fill it up when it starts to come on.
sorry, not to steal ur post. but .. i have a b13 i took the speedometer gauge thingy off and knoticed i had a gas light too but no bulb that goes there. does anyone know if i swap a bulb and plug it in will it light up when it should?
-and i think its like 10 more miles u can get with the gass light on, w/out flooring. but make it 5 mi better safe then sorry?
There was a thread a short while ago about this. Search it out. Lots of posts giving lots of various answers but I think its pretty safely 1 gallon. Take a gas can with you one day and find out for your specific car.
As for changing the bulb, try it, that is easily what is wrong. Several people have said there's have burned out.
there was no thread about this as a searched numerous times under different entrys. but i am not really about to go out and run out of gas on purpose, i was just asking.
It was under the B14 forum. I was just suggesting finding out for your own car since this thread gives such wide variances. I personally need to run my car out so I know for myself. Otherwise, like before, should come on when 1 gallon is left. How many miles your car gets to a single gallon is different than anyone else's car.
well...from what I understand the general thought of the light was to get you at least 30miles so that maybe be between 1 and 2 gallons. I know on my moms ford escort you can go for like 50 miles on empty with light on because of how they did it...but it makes you better off being safe than sorry.

and i'm pretty sure it's 1 gallon when the light comes on.
And have you ever ran out of gas on a carbed engine? not fun either. have to put a little gas down the carb first then sit there and crank the motor over for awhile then start pumping it like nothing else and hope you dont kill your batterey from all the cranking....although i'm speaking from experience with a mechanical fuel pump which i'm sure hasn't been used in over 20years

I have never run out of gas while I was driving if that is the main concern. Otherwise is it really bad on the engine? When I change my fuel filter the instructions I have always seen say pull the fuel pump fuse and run the car till it dies to intentionally drain the line. I hope the service instructions aren't telling me to do bad things to my car.

running out of gas doesn't really hurt your car...just makes it quit running.
