EGR/CAT reset procedure??

Took the car in for a SMOG check, didn't pass. Since the battery had been dead for a few weeks, and recently recharged, tech said the EGR and CAT system had to be 'reset'. I was advised to drive at constant speeds on the freeway for 2 minutes, three times, with shutdown between each trip. Nothing. Does anyone know anything about this? Or any other methods that will help the SMOG checker get response from system.

Do you know whice tests your car failed? That would be helpful for diagnosing which system is actually malfunctioning.

I guess when it tested those two systems, it had no response. Those two systems aren't doing anything.

its your rear O2 sensor..

it would show that your egr/cat system failed.. thats what was wrong with mine.. i replaced teh o2 sensor, drive it for like.. 30 min / 50 miles.. whatever comes first.. and the o2 sensor is ready and reading normal.. give it a try

my emmisions fail cuz my egr system had build up in the tube, so it was producing to much carbon and had build up.. it might be the rear O2 sensor or just build up.... clean out the egr tube to see how that helps...
