I have an oil leak and I suspect that the crankshaft oil seal was leaking so I have replaced id. The only way I could get the crankshaft bolt off was to use a impact wrench. I am now reversing the proceduce. How do you get the crankshaft bolt on to the proper torque. I don't want to use my impact wrench since it applies a full 240 foot lbs of force. Is there anyway to keep the crankshaft from moving so I can apply some torque? If I put the engine in high gear and had someone step on the brake would this help?

that's what the haynes manual says to do. good job on figuring it out for yourself.
Thanks, this forum helped out in several areas...much more so then the Haynes manual.
That p/s pulley was an absolute pain....I am glad I saw a forum tip that it sometimes gets stuck when adjusting the lock nut and adjuster bolt. At first I did not know what PITA meant in some of those posts but I quickly figured it out when trying to adjust that p/s pulley....got a good laugh. I had to hit it hard to get it to move but once it broke it's seal it was easy.
So far it looks like the crankshaft seal replacement is doing the trick. The next week or so will let me know if the oil leak is really gone or not. I hear that the crankshaft oil seal is a common problem on the ga16 engines. My Sentra is around the 150K mark.
