Alright, Ive had my header sitting here for a while becase Ive been waiting to put it on with my exhaust, but Ive been wating long enough and want to install it this weekend. I have a question though will it bolt on to the stock exhaust or does it need modified (stock exhaust)? thats really one of the reasons I havent done it yet. I figured with all the different versions of our exhausts systems it may not totally bolt on, especialy with the second 02 sensor issue. So I believe I have a cali version of the 97 200sx. I have a cat in the exhaust mani and I see what looks like to be a cat under the car. its short and fat. not long and skinny, which I assume would be what a resonator would have looked like, right?
i don't know what version i have but there was a cat. in my manifold and one underneth the car and the hs header/downpipe bolted right up to the cat under the car.......good luck

ditto the above post... they are designed to fit on the stock exhaust..
That's probably a cat underneath if its a 97 CA model...pretty sure all 96 and up had cats..
another tip: resonators are usually welded into the piping. The cats are bolted on with flanges between the down pipe and mid-piping... a cat will also have a heat shield on it...

hmm.. well this thing is def. in the mid pipe not between the downpipe and mid pip. it seems it goes, Exhasut Mani-Bolts to DownPipe-Bolts to MidPipe. Then near the front of the flange of the mid pipe is what I think is a cat. but it doesnt actually have flanges on it, its welded into the mid Pipe. Even tho its welded very close to the front, It acutally might be a flange on one side of the cat and welded to the pipe on the other side. Doesnt have a heat shield either. weird.
I think you have what I have. I have a 98 Sentra... I think it's federal. I looked under there today and it's a resonator underneath there. So, I just have the one Cat in my stock header.
Since, I want to put in a HS header, I'm going to have to get another cat and fit it in there somewhere. The guy at the muffler shop told me that they wouldn't put the header in for me because they don't want to take the fall for making it illegal to smogs. I thought that if I put in another cat, that it would breathe clean enough and that they wouldn't care then.
But, anyways, they're going to build an exhaust for me from the bottom of the stock header to the back. I might as well get another cat put in there at this time.
header - downpipe (flange) midpipe w/ resonator back to muffler.

looks like a resonstor..thats a 98 CA Model? That picture I posted above shows the stock Nissan cat...a cat should always have a heat shield attached....

See, I was thinking yours was the aftermarket one from Random... now that I know it's the OEM one, mine's definately a resonator. There's no heat shield on that bad boy.

Ok... what do you suggest we do? Buy a cat and have it put in when I get my exhaust? Should I get them to redo the downpipe also to the oem header? Since it'll be another year or so before I put a header in there.
