ga16i, with ga16de head?

would it be possible to just swap the head(along with ecu harness and all that) and keep the same ga16 block and tranny in place?

I don't think so, I've heard that the bolt positions on the ga16i head are slightly different than the ga16de. Can anyone confirm this? They might actually fit.

OK, I thought I'd drag this up because I've gone to my local pick n' pull and looked at a few engines. At the end of the day, I pulled a GA16DE head for like $27 +tax. Taking the head gasket, and comparing the GA16DE head to the GA16i crankcase, the only difference is the timing chain cover. I mean the bolt pattern lines up exactly except for the timing cover bolt pattern, where the gasket pattern comes short compared to the head. The next step is to acquire a timing chain cover off a GA16DE and see if the bolt pattern aligns with that on the GA16i. Just an interesting thought I thought I'd like to share.

Thanks anyways, but an AL valve cover came with the head that I grabbed from the JY. What I'm looking for is a timing chain cover from a GA16DE, to see if it will fit on a GA16i botom end.

I think you might have issues of piston to valve clearance since the 16i has only 12 valves, while the 16DE has 16 which has the relief cut for the valves. I've asked about the compatability of both engines head and most the response was not to bother since you will need the harness and ECU installed, might as well just swap the whole engine, much easier.

Crap, forgot about the relief cut on the pistons. That means I'd have to swap those out too. Well, so much for this experiment.

Shit! I thought I had it good...that'd run me $50 up here! How much for an engine? $150 here...but it's got manifolds, throttle body, pulleys...everything but flywheel and alternator.

With all the differences it is probably easier to do a complete swap given the engine price.

Old thread, but I do have to add something. Isn't the GA16DE DOHC? The GA16i is SOHC.

i dont know if Ga16De head is functionally with GA16 OHC, , but ,, remember then you never can use the ECU, you have a change the carburated system for ECCS manifold and all sensors .. is complicated this process,

other option is used carburated GA16DE 16V , , hehehhe i have this project but a GA16DNE, or MEXICAN POWER ,, jajajja

is more easy to buy an engine GA16DE with ECCS y VTC ,ECU and wires. . and to do a Swap ..
