I'm getting a similar noise at about the same rpm. Its a combo of ringing and buzzing. I didn't notice it untill I installed my cai about 2 years ago. My noise dosn't go away.

does it do it all the time even when you are crusin or does it do it only when you are at wot... i have a slight buzzing noise when i am at half throttle, kind of sounds like a loose bolt and now i have a vibrating noise when i between 3000-5000 rpm.. where is it coming from, exhaust? engine bay? try to be specific

it is coming from the engine bay. you cant hear it from inside the car at WOT. i have also noticed a click whenever i pull the accelerator cable.

check to see if there are any loose bolts, cuz it should like metal to metal contact.. do you have a heat shield or anything like that ..

well mechanic looked at it today and the sound is a rattling piston. it's been a month and a half since i first started hearing the rattling, and in that time the problem has gotten worse. i used to just hear driving on the streets and now i can be in 5th gear at 2000rpm and i can hear the rattling. mechanic said the fastest way to fix this would be to just get a new (used) engine. He also said if I went that route he could rebuild the current engine at a higher compression.
my question now is should I get the new used engine (while getting the other engine rebuilt) or just step up to an SR20?
