I've never quite figured this out, even by looking at pictures. I have a normal fed model B14, with the manifold cat and resonator underneath. Replacing the manifold gets rid of the manifold cat, naturally, replacing it with the downpipe and secondary. Replacing from the cat back though, does it leave enough space to replace the old resonator with a cat? I always thought the cat-back piping bolted right onto the secondary. I'd hope it would leave a gap to put a cat between the two. If it does, I just never noticed or knew for sure, because I'll have to do that if I replace both ends of the exhaust.
Does it?

well if you get a hot shot header it will bolt up to a random technology high flow cat and will bolt on to a stromung exhaust, or do what i did custom cat back and everything from the cat back is welded on...

B14's with the manifold cat (like my car) have to get another cat , as you know , which means that the new cat will go inplace of the original resonator , then when you finish up the exhaust piping you will have to get piping that matches the length of the stock piping without the res.
on my car i got the stromung cat-back which deletes the resonator and it bolt directly to the mani-cat , .. , stromung also sells the same exhaust system that leaves room for a cat (ie: shorter pipe) . So if I were to get a header i would have to buy the shorter stromung one or find/make a system thats shorter so it bolt to the new cat.
does that help ... i dont know im confused to again
...why did nissan have to change up the B14 so much ...

"Stromung sells an exhaust with a shorter pipe" does it right there. I wasn't aware there were two different lengths of pipe you could buy from them. Cool, thanks.

ok, so the collector comes with the hotshot header, right? but you need to get the random tech cat separately, right?? then the shorter stromung exhaust............and lengthen the rear o2 sensor....ok..........
well since you have the 98 200sx ... the 2nd O2 sensors are a little bit bigger than the hole in the random tech cat... go to this site... it may help this goes for either a cali or non cali 98 200sx.. you need a cat installed if you install an afetermarkter header.. for previous years they may not have had a pre-cat header so this wouldn't be the case but if the stock manifold had a built in header and you dont instal an aftermarket header your ecu will read the wrong air/fuel ratios causing your cel to come on..
ok, i've read that article many times now, but my concern is that there are those pre-98's with the cat under the car, so i was wondering if that could be an alternative to the random tech cat which would also sit in the same spot, and i still have to find out which one is more cost effective........
