I agree with these posts - a lot of cars have a higher idle at start-up, but this shouldn't continue very long, except for say, in cold weather.
My Sentra used to idle very unpredictably (turned out to be a fuel filter/O2 sensor/dirty throttle body issue) and before I checked these items, I simply brought the idle up a little to keep it from dying as much (bad idea). Anyway, just in case you didn't know, there is a little screw that keeps the throttle cord taught at a certain position for idling. If your car maintains an unhealthily-high idle, I'd suggest dropping the idle speed a little. It's not extremely hard on your engine to idle faster - but it's not great either.
