HELP! High idle speed

I have a 1987 Nissan Pulsar, everytime i start the engine, the rpm goes around 1100 - 1300, but i checked my manual, it says normal idle speed should be 800 rpm, does anyone know what caused my problem?? thx for help

it should be normal.

my sentra does that.. it goes to hi rpm @ first start then it slowly adjust it self down the the lower rpm.

my 98 200sx idles at 1300 when i first start it and then adjust down to 900 or 1000 after it starts running... it sounds normal though

I agree with these posts - a lot of cars have a higher idle at start-up, but this shouldn't continue very long, except for say, in cold weather.

My Sentra used to idle very unpredictably (turned out to be a fuel filter/O2 sensor/dirty throttle body issue) and before I checked these items, I simply brought the idle up a little to keep it from dying as much (bad idea). Anyway, just in case you didn't know, there is a little screw that keeps the throttle cord taught at a certain position for idling. If your car maintains an unhealthily-high idle, I'd suggest dropping the idle speed a little. It's not extremely hard on your engine to idle faster - but it's not great either.

Hope you can resolve your problem.
