trouble starting engine, engine dies when you give it gas
like the title says.. every now and then.. maybe twice a week. The engine doesn't want to start, but finally does after 20 - 30 seconds turning the key. I have to make sure I don't step on the gas when this happens.
Then when I give the engine gas after this the engine dies out..
But after 1 minute of the engine running everything is back to normal and can stop and start the car w/ ease. And I can gas it all I want and it still runs...
Ideas what this may be?.. =) I'll take it to the mechanic tomarrow, but just was curious... oh btw this is a GA16i in a 89 sentra..
Just a guess, but it sounds to me like a fuel pressure problem. Is there a leak somewhere in the fuel lines? It could also be an electrical short in the engine harness.Or maybe a bad ignition module since they trigger the injection in many cars and can have an intermittent problem.

i would agree with himilefrontier.. it actually sounds like your car is dumping too much fuel and making it run really rich.. my friend had the same problem with his ford probe...you might want to replace your fuel filter if you haven't done that in awhile and then check your fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator..

Check your Fuel pump. My buddy has s skyline GTS. Whenever he steps on the accelerator for about 10 seconds, the engine totally shuts down. He changed the fuel pump and it worked fine now.

It sounds to me like a low pressure at the gas pump... have you checked the injector located at the top of the throttle body when manually rev. up the engine? it should spread gas inside if it doesn't i would go with low fuel pressure... or the MAF sensor damaged... have the fuel pressure checked.... it should be around 35psi at idle...
