Car is finally painted: Need advise on brands of stuff to throw on next
So the car is finally painted, now I need to know what brands/models of items I should get:
1. Exhaust
- custom cat back; cat is old and "Rattlely", would it help to weld up a test pipe to just replace the cat?
- muffler; need a straight thru with a nice tone, not too loud. I DO NOT want a ricey coffee can. Something with a 3 inch max tip. As deep of a sound as possible.
2. Suspension
-How bad are the ebay coilover that all the ricer's use? We have bad pot holes here but my car at stock height looks like a 4x4.
This is on a tight budget as intend to sell this car and these things are just to make it look cooler and easier to sell. I just dont want to make anything worse.
Well,
1) stromung
2) don't waste your money. Just get the basic dampener from tein. It lowers your car with shortened struts. Less than $800 (ok, maybe not, expect a grand or so) for all 4 corners.
However you said you want to sell the car. Well, then there's nothing to do. Any money you put in won't be reclaimed. Short of being dishonest and putting a fake exhaust and cut springs, there's nothing you can do.
Uhh, no. If I was gonna spend $800 I would throw H&R with Bilsteins on.
I am basicly looking for a way to make it more appealing. With the used car market the way it is, I figure I can make it appealing to all these kids that rice out their cars anyway (not that I wanna see it riced out) but I am having finacial issues lately and have too many car to fix.
My thought on the ebay coils was to find some dork thats like "Whoa coilovers."
My target market is idiot rich kids basicly.

i wouldnt get the ebay coilovers... maybe some sportlines or tein stech's. exg=haust...i really like my magnaflow muffler and custom catback...muffler was 140 i think.
umm... dont go with ebay coilovers. i lowered a 98 neon with ebay crap C/O's and stock struts almost a year ago. he just called me 1 week ago and left an "emergency" message on my phone saying that the pass. rear C/O spring snapped and his car is riding all goofy. trust me i let him know what he was doin before i put them on.
exhaust.. get a custom exhaust done with mandrel bend pipe.. no more than 2 1/4" with a magnaflow muffler or get a stromung cat back and get a high flow cat back... for suspension.. get tokico shocks and struts with eibach springs....
I'd just cut the springs, paint them red and put them back in. That'll pass with 90% of the douchebags that'll come looking at it. For exhaust, I'd just weld a pipe in for the cat. Don't spend any more money on it, you'll have to fight to get it back. If you've got some larger diameter exhaust tubing you could put a crappy CAI in, that'll be a selling point.

no test pipe on the exhaust. i have a high-flow cat and a 2 1/2+ pipe with a maxspeed muffler. sounds great....get backfire effect when downshifting/decelration

Personally, I'd leave the car exactly like it is. Anyone interested in it is going to buy it for what it is and depending who's interested, what potential the vehicle has.
First off, I wouldn't cut the spring whether your keeping or selling the car. It will change the spring rates making the handling characteristic unreliable or unknown and possibly dangerous.
Also, I wouldn't remove the CAT because the car will more than likely fail inspection and emission tests if they exist in your area. My suggestion would to replace the rusted exhaust with a 2-2 1/4 crush bent piping with a universal muffler and a new CAT if your current one has failed but only if you are keeping the car for a few months, otherwise, cut your losses and keep what money you do have. If you think you can get more money for the car if some necessary mechanical work was done eg. brakes, hand brake adjustment, fluid top up and changes, new plugs, etc. then do so. I'd focus more on cosmetic detailing both interior and exterior as well as the engine bay.
