I have a Nissan Sentra XE 1993, with GA16, manual transmission. I drove this car for 1400 miles in 3 days on interstate a few weeks ago. Recently I found a strange noise was developed after I started engine. It's like tapping sth. The sound is from the bottom of the engine. With the accelarator stepped down the frequency of the sound will increase too. The engine oil was regularly changed by my self(Vavleline, PH3682), and was done before I had that long trip. The car is 11.8K in its odometer.
Would you experts please think about what kind failure it could be? I have consulted local repair shop, they said the engine was worn out too fast because of over usage in a short period. And this car is said to be be going to be dead in weeks or hours.

Ridiculous. I drove from South Carolina to Maine literally non-stop without shuting it down except for gas several years ago with no ill effects whatsoever.
Well Maybe you got a bad sentra. I have a 95 with the original engine and timing chain, with about 185000 mi on it. These little cars are virtually indestructable. when you treat them right. Sounds like its time to cough up the cash and get the timing chain and guides

It's a second-hand card. I bought it 2.5 years ago with 94,700 miles on it. Mechanics checked it and said its engine and transmission were good, before I paid the owner.
Now, this sound has decreased or even disappeared. Thanks for everyone.

Thank you all!
Well, I am not an expert.
But, I can tell you that worn engine mounts or points make strange vibrations, that could sound as if something else is wrong.
I replaced the three engine mounts of my !993 Sentra with the GA16DE engine and now I am able to listen the other strange sounds of the engine. I started listen strange vibrations and noises at about 139,000 miles and I waited about 20,000 miles for the job.
The original Nissan parts are expensive, but replacement parts do not work well in this case. It uses three, and all are crucial for noise-vibration
Even if this is wrong, your car may have other problems, like mine.
Thanks. I will pay atttension to it. Now I am working on the alternator and battery. I need to replace the alternator. And probably the battery as well.
mine was making that sound when i fractured a bolt near the tranny casing.. it was because i had somehow managed to slam the bottom of my car (including tranny) over a curb where my driveway is.. any how.. after i had the dealership fix that bolt( which somehow caused my car to be stuck in gear after i banged it up.. ) that rattling sound was gone.. morons like this start threads all the time. They probably want a 240sx because its what is hot right now instead of a honda civic and wants to drift in a shopping parking lot...dumb and unsafe.guys like this can't handle the power of a vehicle and want the numbers for bragging rights, only to find themselves wrapped around a tree.
