strange idling issues in GA16

I've tried searching the forums and didn't find a matching thread in the first 3 pages of searching so I hope nobody already answered a question like this

Basically, when I push in the clutch on my 1992 GA16 (it has 228k miles on it but that shouldn't really be too much of a problem) the revs dip down to wayyy low, probably around 200 rpm or so. The lights go dim for a second and it sounds like the engine is going to die but it actually brings itself back up to normal (about 800 rpm) idle speed a second later.

This has been happening for a while and it has never actually stalled out on me. Cleaning the throttle body seems to fix it but only for a few minutes.

Is this a common problem, and any suggestions on how I could go about diagnosing and fixing it?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Try cleaning your idle control valve. It is the selenoid/valve located on your upper intake plenum opposite your throttle body. A $2 can of throttle body cleaner is all you need.

I agree, the AAC valve needs removed, there is a long hexhead bolt like thing with a connector on it. Remove it with open end wrench first before you take the AAC vlave off to clean it. its tight. there is a plunger and spring. Remove this and really clean the thing out of carbon. Mine was really bad, its because of the PCV valve. I placed all of the venting things into a catch can now to prevent this carbon clogging. Gumout is a good thing to use to clean it out. Also, make sure the PCV valve giggles, clean that with gumout also. The EGR valve may need cleaned too, so take that off and clean that too.
