Besides that it's a Hotshot CAI, I don't know what's left to explain... do elaborate for us.

Looks there like they got one of those neat strut bars, a prostart battery, thats pretty nice, and some sort of intake system made by Hotshot.

The MAF and throttle body only have a 2.5 inch diameter for the pipe to connect to. So there's no reason for the pipe between the two to be any bigger since it still has to go into a 2.5 inch hole. The 3 inch pipe going into the MAF still has to reduce down to 2.5inches too.

Red face

That is what I don't undestand. I don't know why the piping goes from 2.5 to 3 inches. I wanted to use my PoP charger with it but its .5 inches bigger so.... I can't. But any explaination why it goes from 2.5 to 3?

increase the velocity of air coming into the intake manifold

I don't know either but you may want to get a hold of hotshot and ask them. The intake comes with a new filter. Although I don't think it is a k & N I have the injen wai and the filter sucks
just for fun i have this wheel grinder and i chopped the filter in half to find out what is was made of. just cotton material. You know how they are red well i washed mine and it turned white.
anyways I put my monsterflow filter on it. Works better imo
and is easier to clean.

Cool

I was just wondering, because I know the product is good (because I have it) but it just seems odd that someone would do that. I personally wanted to weld some parts together to mimic the down pipe but to leave it in a 2.5 inch diameter. But ill probably make it a project for myself and see what the dyno difference is.

Because during testing it was found that having the smaller "A" pipe increased power... hence the design change like 2 years ago.. as far as I know Hotshot is the only one doing this,,, It's the best CAI for the GA16 on the market,,, other companies have a 3" pipe and reducers are needed,,

AZ_TURBOSE and myoung are right. Since the piping decreases from the MAF to the manifold, it creates a higher pressure in turn making the air flow faster. Here i'll prove it to you.

I made a cutom intake for my GA16DE using a 3 inch cold air intake pipe made for a '96 and up Honda Civic. I took the stock intake tube out of my Sentra as well as the stock air filter box. After cutting the 3 inch pipe to fit in the engine bay and crafting an adapter to hook the cone filter to the MAF, I got the results.

The 3 inch intake was worse then the stock intake tube! "How could this be", I asked myself. Shouldn't the 3 inch piping let more air in faster thus creating more horse power? So, I put the stock tube back in, but left the cone filter on. WOW, what a differance! The car ran much better! Why? Because the 2.5 inches lets the air come in at the right speed.

So, why does Hot Shot change up the size on their intake? Because the 2.5 inches is tuned for the engine. That is the magical word, TUNING. You see, having that 3 inch intake was to big for the 1.6 liter. But 2.5 inches is just right. Because 2.5 inches lets the right amount of air in at the right time. Some people think bigger is always better. Nope! It's tuning that makes the magic.

If you want it put really simple, take this example. Let's take your body for instance:

If we transplanted Albert Einstein's brain in your skull, replaced Arnold Swarts-a-I-dont-know-how-to-spell-his-last-name's arms onto your body, and just ripped your legs off and replaced them with powerful legs from a horse, you would be one bad Mutha Falker, but would Albert's brain fit into your skull properly and would it be needed for your daily life. Sure, but we would have to modify your skull and keep Alberts brain busy by thinking and podering a lot to keep it from going dull. What about Arnold's arms and the horse legs? You would be so off balance it would be a task to walk and when walking would it be comfortable to walk at a humans pace because those powerful horse legs need to stretch farther. And as for those arms, I dont see anything really wrong with those excpt they would just look very awkward on a frame not built for them. Now if we tuned all those body parts to your body, you would be unstoppable at anything

So, the moral of my short story is, which has already been stated, is that bigger is not always better, its tuning that wins in the end.
Just rememeber that you need the right part for the right apllication.

Hope this helps and hope I didn't bore you to much with all that mumbo jumbo, but its 5:23 in the morning and i'm at work as I type this, so I have nothing better to do besides play video games and watch movies. I don't even know why I call it work! HaHa. PEACE!

MisterRatOne This is normal:

Is is called oil impregenated cotton gauze. After use you can wash all of the dirt out of it thenuse the K&N filter recharge kit. They use a red colored oil for the filters.

Also I bought a 3" mid ppe from a guy here on the boards to make a WAI and didnt really see a diffrence one way or the other
before i was using a cone filter on the stock pipe.
