One for the Engineers

I know, I know, but humor me.
I've seen various "electric turbocharger" products available. The new members post warns me that it doesnt work, but why not? While I am doubtful of their effectiveness, if one could measure the boost they give, we could know what they are doing for us. The problem is these manufactures only give CFM the fan blows. What CFM would we need to get 6-8psi of boost in our GA16DE’s?

Thats not so easy. In order to achieve some boost you would need the fan to blow more CMF than the engine sucks. But now when boost raises the CMF of the fan will fall becouse a fan is not able to make any boost. You can try this with you hair dryer. The second problem is the energy problem. You can calculate how much power you need to have xx psi at xx CMF and then you will see that your alternator is much to week to deliver this power.

According to the Ga16de report on http://www.mathermotorsports.com/html/timmotor.html "The intake port of the standard head flows 102 cfm"
What does this mean for our purposes of relating CFM to boost (psi)?
The T28 turbo used in nissanpreformancemag's progect 200sx can push up to 620cfm. what exactly this mean for us, I do not know.

about the only believable electric turbo i've seen (this has been discussed to DEATH, by the way...) was only on sale in our area for a little while, and not many were sold at that. The boost is minimal and claimed at around 30%, but from talking to guys who've tried it, it's more like 5% at pick-up. The fan is SUPPOSEDLY electronically controlled to match engine rpms, but it is pretty small, and i doubt that the SOTP feeling you get from take-off extends past half-pedal.

I finally found a site where someone actually tested it, instead of yammering on and on about how it couldn't work or about how it will give you MUCH MUCH HORSEPOWER...

here

I just found this today... searched last year, and nobody had anything serious to say about the topic.

But, you'll note, that for about 400 bucks, you get about as much boost as you would by changing your air filter... that's depressing.
