I was thinking about having a hood scoop intake system on the GA. You might also be able to get away with it on other FF nissan engines if the intake manifold is the same position.
My thoughts were to have a hood scoop similar to a WRX, Camaro SS, ect. the intake manifold is at the back of the engine bay. I do not know how you could do it. Maybe just have some sort of plastic directional stuff to get it shot over by a cone filter, or have the MAF moved, and have a closed system like a CAI.
I imagine it would have to be a custom job to do. I have seen the warbird hoods, but I don't think it "goes" with the car at all.
Just a thought to get cold air into the engine and hopefully, if this goes into production or something, I could get a little credit.
Also on the WRX and Camaro SS, what keeps the rain/car wash out of the engine bay?
this isnt a new concept. Pontiac has it but I heard it sucks. I think they have like a bypass valve like on the CAI's. I like the hoods on the WRX's. They look tight.
i think its a great idea man...but hard as hell to do probably. you definitely wouldnt want it to be a part of the hood but kinda sit on the top of the engine kinda like the stock intercooler on sr20det's. gotta be a closed system though.
I plan to fab up an intake plenum for pulling in cold air just below the bumper (assuming the FMIC doesn't get in the way) which will funnel air to a cone filter when I do a DET swap into an SE-R. I would suppose the same thing could be used for an NA engine as well, just have to do some intake piping similar to a regular CAI.

have you thought about something like the cai arospeed makes for hondas? it looks like an intercooler to everyone who doesn't know what it is..but its small. i think if you adapted one of those it'd work great.

Reconnect the air horn and this should be able to direct the air coming from the bumper and front of the car into your POP/air filter.
i did this on my 91 SE-R (sold) and should have dynoed it

That 'thing' that pontiac has is called ram air. And no, it does not suck, it actually works very very well. To the guy that started the thread; this is done on many cars nowadays.
The ram air system (on firebirds and grand am gt's) is done using a front scoop, and then a very wide flattish air filter, that is then directed into your maf. It is effective, watertight (due to how it sort of 'goes up' before going down into the filter) and cheap to 'create'.

That's not a bad idea at all. If a guy didn't want to hack up the hole where that resonator box enters to install a CAI he could keep a cheap drop in filter in his OEM box and do what you've suggested. It might piss a few WAI guys off, but I'd be willing to be there might be as much negative effect of the higher air temps that negate the freed flow, and that your suggestion with more restricted piping but cooler air might be just as beneficial as a WAI for less money. Or like you've suggested, do your mod with a WAI in and you'd have something in between. People might say, just put in a CAI, but what a lot of people might not realize is that if you hack up that hole to put the CAI in, you might not be able to compete in certain classes down the road. I made my own CAI just because I wasn't going to pay the jacked up price for one and I don't plan to build up my XE anyways. Which by the way, will be for sale hopefully in the next few months. But your suggestion is a nice free mod that a guy with a WAI could do and most certainly see some benefit from.

I have been looking a little on ebay for some hood scoops. Don't buy them there. Goto the numerous british sites for scoops, bonnets, and vents. I am checking on shipping also. I do not know if the WRX scoop will look good on a sentra, and i was spending some time in my garage working on a piece of styrofoam seeing how it would look. Looks "ok" but over played, (expect to see on hondas). While i was surfing the web i found a good selection of the vents like on the impreza rs2.5 and the lancers. Also some other vents from other turbo cars. The slight contour our hood has would go great with some of the vents i found. (I will post a link when i can find the site again). you could fessable put a vent over the filter, and a second one on the other side for looks and im sure you could get a slightly cooler air temp over the filter. Still wondering about the water issue, you don't want a ton of water dripping down on your POP. I taped a black MSPAINT image on the hood of what the vent would look like, not to bad, considering I have the Silver Mint color. I have the chrome motiff (damn them hubcaps, and my little bank account) so black doesnt eactly fit, but if i can figure out a good way to let air blow right on the filter and not the water, ill have a vented hood! I will try to get some of my ghetto garage doctoring pictures up if anyone wants to see.
I had the same idea except i was thinking of positioning a drop in filter(K&N oem replacement)under the hood scoop(using the stock box). But i have't figured out the Drainage (water) issue.one solution could be using a secondary filter in case of water suction by the main filter.(Dual filters).
Check out Weapon-R, they make a ram air kit for the b13, I get alot more power in the upper rpm's with that than with my old POP charger. I think you can even run the Ram air through a CAI with a 3" outlet.
