Car runs with MAF disconnected

Well Ok, I hooked up the fuel injection in my 86 Sentra.. and it runs BUT Here's some wierd stuff for ya.. I plug in the MAF and the car runs ok for 5 seconds then stalls... I disconnect it and it runs fine, however! If I try to rev it up past 3K it cuts out... Plus it has no power, and of course I can't drive it around with it guessing what the air readings should be... sounds like I got a messed up MAF huh? You guys thinking the same thing?

you have a 86 injected motor? it must have the TBI on it. It will not have an MAF, but a sensor built into the TBI unit. Is that what you are talking about. I had an 86 with electric carb 2 bbl. the jack went throught the floor one time from rusted underbody! it still ran OK though.

when you disconnect the MAF the ECU will go into "limp mode" this wont allow you to rev past 3000 rpm. Your MAF might be bad, does your ECU have a diagnostic mode like the b13's and later? if so, check if its throwing a code. You might want to hook a volt meter to the output of the MAF and verify that its output makes sense... i.e. it matches what the service manual indicates (should go up as you rev the engine).

It was flashing a code 12, for a MAF... both when the MAF is disconnected and when it's connected... gonna test the voltage tonight...
