Arrow +16.9 hp from an air intake???

If any of you out there have heard of AEM's V2 cold-air intake, then you know what i'm talking about with the horse power gains for this intake. In an article I read, the intake was put on a '96 Civic DX. The car gained 16.9 horses and 14 lb-ft torque.

Is this true? How much power would this unique intake drop on a stock ga16de?

Here's the site so y'all can see what i'm yaking about: http://www.aempower.com/induction.htm

Hey, I remember that stepped intake when it was called a Hotshot... LOL

I think those HP claims are about the same as Flowmaster saying they're mufflers will give you 20+ HP.

u do know that manufacturers lie about their HP gains........but thats pretty dumb...hotshot claims their CAI gives about 8whp.....which is reasonable, but UR pulley said the pulley gained 5-7whp, when it only gained 2-3 when NPM tested it

Well that's true and not true

At peak, we gained 1 to 2 horsepower with the UR pulley on the Ga16. However, in the usable area of the powerband, 4000-5500 rpm, the power gain was 4 to 5 horsepower. A very respectable gain for a relatively inexpensive part, with no adverse effects.

SR20DE Horsepower gains of 6 to 7 peak horsepower are common with the UR pulley

AEM is usually pretty good with their dyno numbers... looking and I still don't see the reference to 16.9 hp...post the link with the actual 16.9 on it.... I see 95.4 stock and 101.2 ..a 6.4 hp gain @5750 rpm..... sounds about right

Thanks for replying.

There is no link because I got it out of an artcle in the March issue of Sport Compact Car on page 173.

If you want to see more on this air intake, go here:

out of the SCC magazine:
"AEM V2 cold-air intake - This is the kind of thing John Concaildi thinks about on the throne. A Helmholtz resonator is a proven time honored way of bouncing intake pulses back down the intake for a mild supercharging effect. AEM managed to create such a resonator with this concentric tube design and a few hundred dyno pulls. The result is absolutely ridiculous power gains for an intake, like 16.9 hp and 14 lb-ft of torque on a '96 to '00 Civic DX."

i read that when i first got this magazine and was like, "wtf? 17 hp? pffft." and that was about all the thought i gave it. that'd be nice if it was ACTUALLY proven by someone outside AEM.

isnt it funny

You guys isnt it funny how OUR after market companies devoted to OUR Sentras- Hotshot came up with that increased diameter tubing idea FIRST for our cars? And now AEM is copying the idea and using it for the Honda crowd? AEM better not say they are the first to come up with this idea because if I read that anywhere Im going to write them with two words - HOTSHOT.
