GA16DE burnt diode

Hi
When I bought my car 2nd hand, the diode on the wiring loom was burnt out . Everything works except for the left hand side electric window .Are these somehow connected?I have seen other posts about this diode but no one seems to know what it is for?

yeah , drivers side is ok but no power to passenger side, could be in the driver side switch . But the diode must do something? There is a thread by a member called matrix021 who has a photo, mine is just a charcoal blob.it hangs off the loom near the distributor.

Well looking in the 97 FSM there are 2 diode's as part of the engine harness, but i cant find them in the circuit diagram.
Just from this i conclude they are nothing to do with the window problem and like slo94b13 I suggest you check the switches and circuits. The window switches are a known problem on our cars.
As for the diodes, I think they may be for electrical spike protection, repair the wires and get a new plug and diode and spice it in. Check the diode with a meter if its used ( prob your best best.) several ways to do this, if you get that far and need help let us know.
Good Luck.

Aha
Re the burnt component, Nissan said it was a spike protector for the electronics (apparently a recall on early maximas could cause a fire !) . Haynes manual wiring diagram shows it as a condenser/resistor . Anyway found one at wreckers off a sentra and installed , will see what happens. Now the passenger window , found no power to the passenger switch and applying power didn't help. Problem was someone had unplugged power and earth supply under glovebox when fitting alarm to door locks. Cut door lock wires from the plug , plugged it in and window works fine. Still not sure about that coimponent though is it a diode or condeser/resistor?

More info
Component contains a 22k ohm 1/2watt resister and a 2.2 uf 50v capacitor. it is the capacitor that fails sometimes cooking the earth wire which in turn shorts other wires in the loom.

Thanks for the information, i found the resistor on the wiring diagram, but could not find the diodes even though they are listed.
