Hey everyone, I have a 1988 Nissan Sentra with a 1.6 liter engine and a five speed transmission. It has a throttle body and is a single overhead cam type. I have been experienceing some fuel consumption issues. On two seperate occasions while driving my car I have noticed sluggish operation and massive fuel consumption. The engine will bog down no matter how much I depress the gass pedal. The engine acts as if it is being flooded. I removed the passenger seat and found that the ECU had a code 23. The FSM indicates this as a idle switch problem. I would like to know if anyone here has ever had this issue. Should I replace the idle switch or does this seem to be a problem with the wiring? The problem seems to be intermittent due to the fact it has only occured twice in the past two months. Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I would like to give an update to my situation. I recently replaced the throttle position sensor and took the vehicle to a local nissan dealership and requested a technician that I am familiar with to set the throttle postion sensor to the correct position. My vehicle was in the shop for about 1 and 1/2 hours. Upon driving the vehicle, I could tell a major difference in performance. The fuel issue seems to have disappeared (260 miles on 1/2 tank of gas). Throttle response and engine idle have drastically improved. The best money that I have spent on my car in years.
