Question Blown Head Gasket - Replacement?

I own a 1993 Nissan Sentra Classic
Specs:
(GA16DE)
1.6L L4 SFI 16V
Year: 1993
Type: PB12
Model: PLB12SAIN 01
Color: BG6 K
Engine: E16I 1597
Trans: RL3F01A FD36
Plant: K

The vehicle has finally died. The water pump was leaking and eventually the engine began overheating. The mechnaic said the head gasket was cracked. I would like to get a replacement but I get questions like do you need just the gasket or whole parts, and is th eengine single - dual something? I should have asked the mechanic to be more specific but that was sveeral months ago.

Any ideas what i would need. Do i need the whole kit?

Thanks.

If the motor overheated, I'd have the head checked for cracks at a machine shop. You should also check for warpage of the block and head.

At minimum, you need to change the gasket and the head bolts. Make sure you torque them in sequence.

If you have the GA16DE, you have a twin cam engine. I don't think the sentra classic came with the GA16DE, but you say you have a 16v engine, I suppose it does.

Thanks for the info. Here are the values i grabbed from under the hood of the Nissan Sentra. I think the GA16DE is something i found on websites when trying to gather additional info on the car. Maybe its wrong. Perhaps from the following you can determine if the engine is a twim cam?

My nissan specs:

Year: 1993
Type: PB12
Chasis / VIN: 3N1PB21S4PK002862
Model: PLB12SAIN 01
Color: BG6 K
Engine: E16I 1597
Trans: RL3F01A FD36
Plant: K

This is the single cam motor (at least, I'm pretty sure it is). The Sentra classic is actually a B12 Sentra that was sold along with the B13 in Canada. Your engine puts out a blistering 70 hp. Alot of parts stores and junkyards will ask for the first few digits of your VIN to determine what you have.

thanks for the info. Great stuff. I know you cant see my engine and i certainly dont know what the hell is going on but do you think that it is necessary to order in the whole head gasket kit or just the head gasket? I wish i asked more questions of the mechanic a few months ago. WHat dopes this kit normally contain?

Just had to ask,.

A whole gasket kit includes everything to strip the engine and re-build.
Main seal, Oil pan etc etc.
To remove the head you might be able to find a head set that will have head gasket, intake and Exhaust manifold and any seals needed.
Other that that you will have to buy each one separately.
