Exclamation '98 200sx GA16DE Sounds like a diesel???

I've read some of the posts that have talked about the upper timing chain tensioner as the culpret. Are all of these from wearing completly down to the metal. I saw some pictures of one post with the same symptoms that was wore completly down to the metal. I took mine off and inspected it and it is far from the metal. Does the tension of the tensioner wear out and cause the timing chain to slap even though there is plenty of life left on the hard plastic guide? Should you be able to apply enough pressure with your fingers to push the tensioner back? and should I start looking into possible excessive valve lash? The car has 140K on it.

The tensioners I have worked with but not for the GA, has a form of ratchet so they couldn't be pushed back when there was no Oil pressure.

I have the same problem, the upper tensioner does not seems to keep any tension on the chain. I already replaced the upper and lower chains...and also the guides and tensioners. The only thing that happens as well is that the car has 140k and the oil and engine its always clean, no sludge or gunk unside. I replaced the o rings at the timing cover ...etc... the whole kit.

I am getting a new upper tensioner from Nissan coz I do not understand why it does not hold the oil pressure...

Any ideas?
