No heat

B14 1.6 200sx
This is puzzling. The temp gauge was running cold, no heat from the vents and the radiator was cold. I changed the thermostat and flushed out the system by draining the radiator, opening both bleed valves and then closing them. I pulled the upper heater core hose, connected the garden hose and ran water toward the cylinder head. With the radiator cap on and petcock tight, coolant and then eventually water came out of the heater core from where I removed the hose. With the radiator cap off, clean water came out of the radiator. I turned the car on and the temperature gauge rose to a normal level but still no heat. Fifteen minutes later, still no heat. The upper radiator hose is warm without pressure in it. The lower radiator hose is cold. The radiator is cold.
I’m thinking it’s still the thermostat. After installing it, I’ve read that the hole on the thermostat flange should be at 12 o’clock and I doubt it is. Could that be the problem?
Thanks.

i would turn the thermostat to the right position and try to get the air out the the line. if the heater is not working after the methods you have done before. then i would tighten all the bleeding spots and let the engine run. as it runs, take the hose clap loose a little at a time from the upper radiator hose. you will want a rag to keep from getting burned. i have done this many times, it gets easy after a few times.
