I'm having a problem with the car. It starts fines (even with the -20C weather) and idles fine. However, when I accelerate it hesitates before I want to shift (ie in 2nd it hesitates around 43 kph).
If I floor it, it runs fine (not a good idea in snow). I think it's the fuel filter (new plugs, etc 15000 Km ago).
I tried to change it, but I can't get the bloody hoses to come off of the filter. Any tips? Am I looking at the right part?
When I replaced the fuel filter on my '89 sentra, it had never been done before (car was 10 yrs old at the time) and the hoses were more or less melted onto the fuel filter. What I ended up doing was cutting the hoses off as close to the filter as I could manage with a box knife, then put the new filter in. There should be plenty of hose to do this to your car once, but I doubt it would work a second time.
Hmm... I had a weird problem similar to this just a week ago... If I floored the car, it would accelerate just fine, but if I was just cruising, when I'd get to about 3500 rpm, it would jerk really bad and act all screwy. I figured out that what it was was that the negative battery terminal was really corroded and cracked. So, I replace it with a new connector and my car runs just fine now =) Hope this helps.

there is a problem with ga16de engines. dont quote me on this.. but.. there is talk about our engines blow gaskets pretty easily.. mine i think is blown.. when you make a right or left turn.. or if this happends again.. look in your rear view mirror.. see if you are burnin oil.. (smoken out back of exhaust)
morons like this start threads all the time. They probably want a 240sx because its what is hot right now instead of a honda civic and wants to drift in a shopping parking lot...dumb and unsafe.guys like this can't handle the power of a vehicle and want the numbers for bragging rights, only to find themselves wrapped around a tree.
only gasket i know thats easy to destroy is the front main seal. but that happens bc everything wears out eventuall or maybe someone puts too much oil in the car. my car did the hesitating thing last week but now its happy..go figure. anyway w/the fuel filter....its a bitch to get off. they use a sort of glue on the hoses at the factory. i used channel locks to get my hoses off but the cutting idea would be easier.
I didn't think about the battery, I'll have to check my terminals (maybe a cleaning is in order). With the salt they use around here, the terminals could be seriously messed up.
As for the gaskets, no smoke to speak of. I just has an emmissions test a while ago, and they found my exhaust to be cleaner than it was when it was new (apparently, they get cleaner as they break in).
I thought about bad gas, but this is still happening after 6 fresh tanks, from different stations. It could be one tank of gas was really dirty (bottom of the barrel, so to speak) and clogged the filter.
I'm going to try to get the fuel filter off this week. If the pig won't come off with the pliers, I'll try cutting the hose. I wish Nissan had used bolts instead of hose clamps.
