Timing help! Yes I read the sticky

So I though I would check to see if any of my problems were related to timing. I followed the guide. The problem is, I cant see any of the timing marks unless the timing light is set to 60* advance (timing light works properly) and timing is retarded all the way then the pointer is close to the timing marks..... what would cause the marks to be that far off? Also does anyone have any tips for finding TDC on cylider 1 without useing the timing marks on the crank pully?

One way or another it sounds like you have a bad timing light. The only way to verify yours is working correct is to check your car with a different light and see if it yields you any different results. Try marking the timing mark with white paint or chalk.
Regarding TDC, the easiest way is to plug the #1 spark plug cavity (plug out of it's socket) and turn the crank pulley slowly. When your finger or plunger is popped off the hole, your either at TDC or 180 degrees out.
