Strange problem, engine loose power, then stalled
I have a 1991 Nissan Presea R10 with GA16DE engine.
During my last long night drive, over 200 miles, my tachometer RPM suddenly dropped to zero, yes zero. But the strange thing is my engine is running, and I am still travelling around 80mph.
After continuing the drive for about 20 miles, the tachometer suddenly went to around 3000k and 4000k RPM, and it flickers rapidly around this RPM, then within seconds, the RPM dropped back to zero again.
I continued to drive for some distance, then without any warning, my engine starts to loose power and it felt like it choking. I pulled over, and then realized that my engine stalled.
I managed to start the engine again after numerous cranks. However, I drove for less than few hundred yards, and the engine stalled again.
This time, no matter what I did, I could not start the engine.
I had no choice but to have the vehicle towed to my workshop. The next morning, when the mechanic got in, he could start the engine with only 1 crank, and everything seems normal.
This baffles me and my mechanic. I can vouch that there wasn't any overheating, either the radiator or engine oil, the night before.
Anyone can shed light on what could be the problem?
Thanks.
